David + Janice
I first met David's parents Anne and Bill a few years ago when I first moved to Station North. John and I had just begun dating and it was the first time in a long time that I had lived in a city - I was still getting adjusted to the pace, trash, and noise and learning to notice the color, vivacity, and friendly hello's. Anne took me on her tour of the neighborhood - my suburban white perspective needed to shake the notion that this was a seemingly hostile and run down place to live and our tour that day was just the cure! We walked 5 blocks from my end of the 'hood to hers and stopped and talked with everyone along the way who was sitting outside. From that day on I felt like I had been invited into something special, no longer an outsider, I had been reminded once more why I have always loved Baltimore - it really is so darn easy to connect with people here if you just open up and say hello.
Anne and Bill are amazing people, funny and kind, having moved to this neighborhood from suburbia themselves after their sons had left for college many years ago. So, when Anne mentioned that one of said sons was to be married in a year and looking for a photographer I crossed my fingers that it'd be me.
When I met David and Janice I was immediately entertained by how they played off one another and all too happy when they decided to book me. The last year of wedding planning was an eventful one for them - even so, I was truly touched when Janice reached out to offer help in some way when she had heard about our dog passing. And when we bumped into David at a mock version of the Oscars for our neighborhood, he was dressed to the nines in a plaid bow tie and blazer, and accepting an silly award with a great sense of humor, on his mother Anne's behalf. What I learned during their wedding day was that this is how they both roll - thoughtful and kind, funny and playful, always ready to make light of a situation, and that they are truly a team. I am always so happy to learn more about people on their wedding day through the stories and speeches, toasts and revelry, this day was no exception!
With a completely bizarre Winter that didn't rear it's ugly head until late in the game, I know that David and Janice were a little concerned about weather. Having chosen to do both the ceremony and reception at Cylburn Arboretum, Mother Nature changed her tune and gave us a true Spring day to enjoy. No couple could have been more deserving of such a beautiful day, and I felt truly lucky to kick off this wedding season with such a fun and goofy crowd - and as Janice and David put it -with lots of [awesome] awkward dancing!
